Entry to the Habsburg crown jewels in the oldest part of the palace, from EUR 16.

  • DurationAbout an hour

The Imperial Treasury is a separate ticket from a separate operator, and this is the surprise most Hofburg visitors get at the door. It sits in the Swiss Court, the oldest part of the complex, and holds the crown of the Holy Roman Empire, the Holy Lance and the Burgundian treasure. The Kunsthistorisches Museum charges EUR 16 online and EUR 18 on site; under-19s go free. This listing is the museum's own ticket sold through the booking partner at about $18, rated 4.4 from 1,972 reviews. Checked 18 September 2026.

What the ticket covers

One entrance ticket to the Treasury's two halves: the secular collection, with the imperial crowns, the coronation regalia and the Burgundian inheritance, and the ecclesiastical collection of reliquaries and altar plate. The crown of the Holy Roman Empire, made in the tenth century and in Vienna since 1800, is the object most people come for; the Holy Lance is a few cases away.

  • Secular treasury — Imperial crowns, regalia, the Order of the Golden Fleece, the narwhal tusk once called a unicorn horn
  • Ecclesiastical treasury — Reliquaries, altar plate and vestments from the Habsburg court chapel

What it costs, and the online discount

EUR 16 online against EUR 18 at the door, with reduced admission at EUR 12 online and EUR 14 on site. Children and young people under 19 enter free, which makes this the cheapest serious museum in the complex for a family. The partner sells the same entry at about $18, and a combination with the Neue Burg museums at about $39 if you want the Weltmuseum and the armoury as well.

When it is open, and the Tuesday trap

The Treasury opens daily except Tuesday, 09:00 to 17:30, and admits visitors only until 30 minutes before closing. The Tuesday closure catches people who assume the whole Hofburg runs to one timetable: the palace route is open seven days, the Treasury is not. It also shuts for a maintenance week, 16 to 27 February 2026.

How long to allow

An hour is a fair allowance and 90 minutes is not wasted. It is a dense museum: two rooms of regalia carry more history than a wing of furnished apartments, and the labels reward reading. Most visitors pair it with the palace route in the morning and the Treasury before lunch, which is a five-minute walk across the courtyards.

Who should not book this

  • Visitors expecting furnished rooms: this is a collection in cases, not a palace route.
  • Anyone arriving on a Tuesday, when it is closed.
  • Groups under 19 without a registration: the museum requires school groups to book through its department.
