The palace route, hour by hour
Doors open at 09:00 every day of the week, public holidays included. The ticket office and last admission are both at 16:30, an hour before the building empties. The two halves then close at different times: the Sisi Museum clears at 17:00 and the Imperial Apartments at 17:30. Arriving after about 15:30 leaves you moving briskly rather than looking.
The autumn refurbishment: shorter hours and a closed section
From 6 October to 18 November 2026 the Sisi Museum is in the final phase of its refurbishment, and the operator's own wording is worth reading twice: the museum section of the Sisi Museum is closed for the period, while the Imperial Apartments stay open. Hours run 10:00 to 16:30 with the ticket office closing at 16:00, and standard tickets are 25% cheaper, which takes the adult day ticket to EUR 15. The Sisi Pass is excluded from the reduction. If Sisi herself is the reason you are going, this is the window to avoid; if the apartments and the silver are enough, it is the cheapest the ticket gets.
The other operators keep their own hours
The Imperial Treasury closes on Tuesdays, which catches people who assume the whole complex works to one timetable, and admits visitors until 30 minutes before it closes. It also shuts for a maintenance week, from 16 to 27 February 2026. The Weltmuseum in the Neue Burg closes on Mondays instead. The Albertina runs 10:00 to 18:00 daily and stays open until 21:00 on Wednesdays and Fridays, which makes it the obvious late-afternoon addition.
What is open when the museums are not
The courtyards and the gardens keep their own rhythm and cost nothing. If you arrive after last admission, walk In der Burg and the Schweizerhof, cross Heldenplatz, and come back in the morning: the route needs about two hours and rewards a fresh start more than a rushed finish.
