There is no visitor car park at the Hofburg, the streets around it are inside Vienna's short-stay parking zone with a two-hour maximum, and a day in a first-district garage costs more than five palace tickets. This page gives you the rules, a garage with its published tariff, and the much cheaper option almost everyone should be using instead.
Step by step
- 1
Understand the short-stay zone before you park on the street
Area-wide short-stay parking zones cover all of Vienna's districts. They apply Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 22:00, and without a resident's Parkpickerl you may park for a maximum of two hours — 90 minutes on some shopping streets. That maximum is the problem: a Hofburg visit with the audio guide runs past it.

Buy a parking voucher, or use the app
Prices from 1 January 2026: 15 minutes free of charge, 30 minutes EUR 1.70, 60 minutes EUR 3.40, 90 minutes EUR 5.10, 120 minutes EUR 6.80. Since 1 July 2026 only vouchers bought at sales points at EUR 1.70 per 30 minutes are accepted. HANDYPARKEN does the same job from a phone, and the free 15-minute voucher is available through it too.

Or use a garage, and know what it costs
Garage Am Hof, at Am Hof 1 in the first district, is the nearest large one to the palace: 578 spaces, open 24 hours, entrance height 2.05 m. The published tariff is EUR 5.50 for each started hour, or EUR 49.90 for 24 hours, with a lower rate of EUR 4.50 an hour and EUR 39.90 a day through the operator's app. It is roughly a seven-minute walk to Michaelerplatz.

Better: leave the car at Park and Ride
Park and Ride sites on the edge of the city cost EUR 4.60 a day and sit directly at U-Bahn or S-Bahn stations — P+R Siebenhirten on the U6, P+R Liesing on the S-Bahn, and P+R Oberlaa and Neulaa. The daily rate applies from entry for up to 24 hours. Park there, buy a day ticket for the U-Bahn and ride in: even with two adult transport tickets you are well under half the cost of a first-district garage, and you skip the traffic entirely.

Tips
- Do the arithmetic once and it settles the question: EUR 49.90 for a day at Am Hof against EUR 4.60 at Park and Ride. The difference buys two adult day tickets to the palace with change.
- The 15-minute voucher is free, which makes street parking viable for dropping someone off and nothing else.
- Entrance heights in first-district garages are low — 2.05 m at Am Hof. Measure a roof box or a van before you commit.
- The streets immediately around the Hofburg are pedestrianised or restricted. Do not plan to drive to Michaelerplatz; the fiaker rank is there, and you are not.
- Holders of a Wiener Linien annual, semester, KlimaTicket or Top Youth ticket get reduced weekly, monthly and long-term rates at the Siebenhirten and Liesing Park and Ride sites.
